INCI: Cetyl Alcohol
Cetyl alcohol is a fatty alcohol of plant origin, used in cosmetic products as it functions as an co-emulsifying agent, as an emollient, as a thickener, as a foam booster and as an opacifier.
- It allows the formation of finely dispersed mixtures of oil and water (emulsions) in combination with another emulsifier and contributes to the creation of stable, uniform compositions, preventing the separation of the two phases for a long time.
- As an emollient, it treats the skin and hair, providing softness, hydration and nourishment. It is chosen in many different types of cosmetics as it is skin-friendly. At the same time it is a non-comedogenic ingredient.
- Cetyl alcohol is also used because it significantly enhances the texture of cosmetic products and improves the spreadability of the final compositions.
- It can also function as a means of controlling the viscosity of cosmetic products and as a foam booster.
- Finally, it has the ability to reduce the transparency and clarity of products, clouding the final composition.
In cosmetics it is used at a rate of 0.5 – 6 %
Due to the excellent stability it offers to the products it is added to, at ZELIA we choose it in the formulations of our products. For example, cetyl alcohol is contained in:
ZЄLIA | Hand & Rough Skin Balsam ‘CHARIS’
ZELIA | Repairing, silicones free hair mask ‘DIONE’
