INCI: Sodium Lactate
L(+) Sodium lactate is a sodium salt of lactic acid, an α-hydroxy acid (AHA: Fruit acids). It is mainly produced by lactic fermentation of sugars (glucose or lactose).
- Sodium lactate is a component of the natural moisturizing factor (NMF=Natural Moisturizing Factor), found in the upper layers of our skin.
- Sodium Lactate attracts and retains moisture, preventing transdermal water loss.
- Thus, it has moisturizing properties and contributes to the care of dry skin, while also acting as an antibacterial.
- ZELIA’s Sodium Lactate is an almost odorless, colorless solution, stable under normal storage conditions.
- It is non-toxic to both humans and the environment, while being readily biodegradable.
It is usually used at a rate of 1-3%.
